Paula Kiessling is the owner and President of Kiessling Transit, Inc., a company that is certified by the Commonwealth’s State Office of Minority and Women Business Assistance (SOMWBA). Carl F. Kiessling, Paula’s husband, is the Regional General Manager. With his years of expertise in the field of transportation, Carl oversees all areas of the company.
The company contracts with regional transit authorities, local municipalities and state agencies to transport passengers throughout Massachusetts and from Massachusetts' locations to facilities in neighboring states. Daily trips to and from residences to work sites, schools, medical appointments, and social events are provided for ambulatory and non-ambulatory customers with a wide range of disabilities.
The company uses a variety of vehicle types, sedans, vans, and chaircars to fulfill the multiple requirements of its passengers. The types of routes provided vary. "Fixed Routes", have a set daily travel pattern. These transport the same persons each day back and forth from residence to work site or learning center. In the ”Demand-Response Routes”, the company holds a contract with The Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority (MBTA) Office for Transportation Access (OTA) to operate The South Area RIDE. Sedans and chaircars are used to transport the persons approved by the MBTA/OTA. This service encompasses not only the South Shore Area but also trips in and out of the central Boston Metropolitan area. Kiessling has been a contractor with the MBTA since 1988. All in all Kiessling Transit, Inc. (incorporated in 1989) and its other corporation, Kiessling School Transportation, Inc has been in business since 1971.
Paula’s and Carl’s sons, Roger, Paul and Lars, are all active in upper management positions within the company. Paul, is the Maintenance Manger. Currently there are five full time mechanics and an Assistance Maintenance Manger to maintain a fleet of 250 vehicles. Lars is the CFO and is in charge of procurement and execution of contracts for the company. He also oversees all-operating costs of the entire company. Roger, is a Project Manager for The South Area RIDE. His responsibilities include the daily operating functions for 100 employees. Other Kiessling top management have been with the company for many years. Kiessling management, supervisory staff, drivers, monitors, and maintenance personnel function as a team to deliver a high level of client satifaction.
